Most people just don’t see the light about home renovations. Often planned towards the end of a project or not at all, lighting is often seen as an expensive add-on. But if you want a beautiful home, lighting is key.
Sally Storey (pictured below) has been screaming this from the lamp tops for many years. She is design director of John Cullen Lighting and is considered the lighting expert and someone who helped kick start the home lighting revolution over the past 25 years.
She advises renovators and new homes builders alike to think about how they will use a room, use plenty of dimmers, conceal bulbs so your eye is drawn to the light not the source, don’t worry about symmetry and to concentrate on layering and highlighting.
Sally has written an in-depth guide for our friends at the KFH Completely London blog on how to light your home including examples of what (and what not) to do and where to find the must-have lights including her own range. Worth a read if you’re about to renovate.
